SMART Pokémon, Switch 2 Batman, and McLaren's thousand races

Summer's reveal rhythm finds its stride today (as if June 1st wasn’t enough!). The SMART Brick gets its biggest deployment yet: twelve Pokémon sets for August 1, promising trainer-and-battle play across six countries. Batman confirms its September Switch 2 date with an exclusive retro minifigure sweetening physical copies. McLaren's thousandth race earns two 793-piece helmets, on shelves now at $89.99.

LEGO Pokémon goes SMART: twelve sets, August 1, six markets

Twelve sets land August 1 in the US, UK, Australia, Germany, France, and Poland, spanning $14.99 to $119.99. Not every set includes a SMART Brick, a critical detail that Lego hopes consumers notice. A Ditto-as-Squirtle GWP (40887, 185 pieces) is Pokémon Center-exclusive with $130 or more in purchases. Brick Fanatics went hands-on and came away surprised; Block Party's first read was more skeptical.

Minty Take

Pokémon is the strongest possible showcase for the SMART Brick: the whole franchise runs on collecting, training, and battling, mapping directly onto what the tech delivers. The six-country ceiling and inconsistent SMART Brick bundling create friction. The IP's pull is extraordinary. Whether it's strong enough to paper over those structural limits is the question August 1 answers.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight — Combat Key Art 16:9 official game artwork

LEGO Batman hits Switch 2 in September with an exclusive retro minifigure

Legacy of the Dark Knight arrives September 18 on Nintendo Switch 2, alongside the Mayhem Collection DLC (Joker and Harley Quinn as playable characters) launching that day across all platforms. The Switch 2 physical Deluxe Edition ($89.99) includes an exclusive Retro Video Game Batman minifigure. Standard Edition lists at $69.99. Pre-orders are open now.

Minty Take

An exclusive retro-pixelated Batman minifigure for physical Switch 2 buyers is a template worth watching. It gives platform adopters a reason to choose physical over digital that sits outside the game itself. If it sells, physical-exclusive minifigures could become standard practice wherever LEGO games hit new hardware.

LEGO Oscar Piastri McLaren F1 Helmet 43017 lifestyle build-in-progress shot

McLaren's thousandth race earns LEGO's next two F1 helmets

43017 Oscar Piastri and 43023 Lando Norris are on sale now at $89.99 each, both at 793 pieces with all decorations printed (visor excepted). The release is timed to McLaren's 1000th race. They join Hamilton and Leclerc's Ferrari helmets from May as the second driver pair in what's shaping into a full-season collecting line.

Minty Take

Printed decorations throughout (the visor excepted) is the design choice that makes the LEGO Editions helmets worth taking seriously as display pieces. At $89.99 for 793 pieces, the price is considered but not outlandish for adult collectibles timed to real-world milestones. McLaren gets to mark a legitimate achievement; collectors get a shelf piece that holds up to scrutiny.

Trend Watch

SMART Play's Pokémon moment is its real test

The SMART Brick launched with Star Wars in March in a limited regional window. Pokémon is the bigger test: twelve sets, six markets, a full ecosystem of expansion and all-in-one options. What Pokémon does for SMART Play's credibility is the story to watch. The community questions are already on record; August 1 will answer them.

The F1 Helmets line has a rhythm now

Ferrari's helmets came in May, McLaren's in June, each drop timed to a real-world race milestone. The cadence looks deliberate: two teams, two months, two price points that are identical. If every top constructor gets its pair, the line has natural legs through the season and beyond. The $89.99 price and collector appetite across a full grid are the two variables to watch.

The Bricks & Minifigs scandal tests the secondary market's foundation

The secondary LEGO market runs on trust: sellers represent condition and authenticity, buyers pay accordingly. A $200,000 Star Wars collection allegedly stolen by a franchise owner is the worst version of that trust breaking down. Bricks & Minifigs built its brand on being the reliable used-LEGO source. What the franchise does next with its reputation is the story to watch.
