LEGO summer 2026 revealed: Speed Champions debuts its first cross-brand pairing

Summer 2026 is on: dozens of sets across nearly every theme, officially revealed this week. Speed Champions breaks its own formula with a cross-brand Jaguar F-TYPE and Land Rover pack, the first of its kind. Architecture returns to New York City with 21066, a skyline build in the Paris format. Fortnite adds four sets.

Minty Take

Speed Champions has always been brand-by-brand. A Jaguar alongside a Land Rover, sold as one pack, is the first time the line has told a story across makes. If that pairing sells, expect more narrative-minded multi-car sets. The line is 11 years old; this is its first genuine format refresh.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight arrives May 22 with warm early word

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight hits Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on May 22, with Switch 2 to follow at an unconfirmed date. Brick Fanatics went hands-on at a London preview event and came away positive. The game recreates the Batman: The Animated Series title sequence in brick form. PC system requirements have raised community concern.

Minty Take

Twenty years on from the original LEGO Batman, TT Games is still the studio that made the LEGO game format feel inevitable. The PC requirements are a real friction point for a community where many play on older hardware. The Animated Series title sequence rebuilt in brick form is the kind of detail that says the creative ambition is intact.

97 fan designs enter LEGO Ideas' first 2026 review

97 fan-designed projects qualified for the first LEGO Ideas 2026 review, closing May 4th, with one project (Sea Friends!) quietly removed without explanation. The field spans Taylor Swift's Folklore Cottage, Charmed's Halliwell Manor, My Neighbor Totoro, Beetlejuice, Thomas the Tank Engine, and Clue, among many others. The second 2026 review closes September 7.

Minty Take

Ninety-seven projects is a big class. The conversion math stays brutal: 3 sets from 146 projects in the second 2025 review. The value of a large review is the signal it sends about what the community is building toward, not the volume accepted. That field is genuinely diverse this round.

LEGO's 2026 advent calendars confirmed, Friends returns after a scare

Five advent calendars are set for 2026: City, Disney, Star Wars, Marvel, and Friends. When LEGO initially listed only four on LEGO.com, the Friends omission set off concern. Friends (42698) was added to the page separately, at $34.99 (£22.99/€26.99), releasing September 1. Marvel makes its calendar return this year.

Minty Take

The Friends scare was brief, but it showed how closely collectors track these lineups year to year. Marvel's return is the real news: a Marvel advent calendar rewards deep roster knowledge, and restarting it after a gap signals LEGO sees real collector interest worth serving.

Trend Watch

Speed Champions' cross-brand debut is 11 years in the making

Speed Champions launched in 2015 on a simple framework: one brand, one car, one licensing deal per box. Eleven years and dozens of sets later, a Jaguar and Land Rover pack in the same box breaks that logic for the first time. The question for the fall wave is whether this reads as an experiment or a direction. If it repeats, the line's entire format opens up: rival packs, era pairings, automotive stories rather than licensing checkboxes.

SMART Play gets hostile reviews; LEGO's track record says the line continues

LEGO has run polarizing format experiments before: Boost, SPIKE, digital integration waves the core community resisted. The consistent pattern: absorb the criticism, watch sell-through, decide quietly. SMART Play is drawing hostile reviews from two directions simultaneously. The eight-set wave (75420-75427) signals commitment rather than a trial balloon. Whether it survives into 2027 depends less on reviewer scores than on how it moves at retail.

The LEGO Ideas pool is growing, but the conversion rate is not

The first 2026 review hit 97 projects, approaching triple digits for the first time. The community is producing more ideas than ever. The conversion math stays brutal: 3 sets from 146 projects in the second 2025 review. What grows is the investment fans pour into projects that almost certainly won't ship. That gap between community ambition and production reality is widening, and LEGO hasn't addressed it.
