Pokémon's First-Ever Minifigures Debut in Five New Sets
Five months into the theme, LEGO Pokémon crosses into minifigure scale. The 2,386-piece, $299.99 Poké Ball diorama debuts Trainer minifigures for Red and Professor Oak alongside single-molded Pikachu and Eevee figures, while Rayquaza, Arcanine, and Munchlax round out an August 1 wave. The Poké Ball and an oversized buildable Red follow October 1.
The reception split is telling: praise for finally getting Trainer minifigures, skepticism about Pikachu and Eevee arriving as single-molded pieces instead of the usual printed minifigs. LEGO's compromise, more sculptural detail, less customization, previews the tension every future creature-heavy license will face.
