Fan Design Has Itself a Very Good Day

Fan-designed LEGO has a big day. LEGO Ideas crowns its first Yu-Gi-Oh! set, a card-built Exodia with zero minifigures, while Botanicals quietly grows its personality-plant lineup to three. Behind them, Downton Abbey goes official, BrickLink's Designer Program reveals Series 9, and Ideas opens a third 2026 review stage with eight early qualifiers.

The Heart of the Cards - Exodia LEGO Ideas fan design by Step_on_a_Brick, the winning Yu-Gi-Oh! entry

LEGO's First Official Yu-Gi-Oh! Set Is Exodia

The five-way vote for LEGO Ideas' first Yu-Gi-Oh! set is over. The Heart of the Cards: Exodia, by fan designer Step_on_a_Brick, won, with the character emerging from brick-built cards. It's also the only finalist without minifigures. The design now heads to LEGO's Ideas team for refinement toward an eventual release.

Minty Take

Yu-Gi-Oh!'s debut set arrives the same week Downton Abbey completes an identical trip from fan project to official 4,711-piece set, LEGO Ideas' two clearest wins of the year. Exodia's card-built display skips minifigures entirely, betting the franchise's appeal survives without them. If it works, expect more trading-card IP to follow the same path.

LEGO's Third Personality Plant Set Blooms

LEGO's tiny plant-personality series keeps growing: 10371 Cosy Plants is the third entry, following Happy Plants and Rocking Plants, this time with a calmer vibe. The 248-piece set pairs a mint plant and a chamomile plant, each in its own pot, arriving November 1 for $22.99 / £17.99 / €19.99.

Minty Take

Three releases in, personality plants have quietly become one of LEGO's steadiest small-format bets: cheap, giftable, and already drawing 'what's next' pieces from fan sites before the paint's dry on this one. At $22.99, Cosy Plants does more for repeat customers than most flagship sets ever will.

LEGO Ideas' Review Cycle Is Running Hot in 2026

Eight projects cleared the support bar within a day of the third 2026 review opening, a strong start for a stage that runs for months. It's also LEGO Ideas' third big fan-to-shelf moment this year alone, after Downton Abbey's approval and today's Yu-Gi-Oh! winner. Watch what else clears the bar before this review closes.

LEGO's EOL Cycle Is Expanding Beyond Year-End

Pick a Brick just retired roughly 1,800 elements, its biggest clearout since June, while the Shop's Retiring Soon list grew to around 140 items across sets like the UCS Falcon and X-Mansion. StoneWars notes 2026 is the first year LEGO has run EOL waves mid-year as well as at year's end. If that sticks, the old habit of hoarding before a single fall cutoff no longer applies.

Bricks & Minifigs' Franchise Trouble Keeps Compounding

A former Bricks & Minifigs location is now a competing 'Reckless Bricks' store, and corporate's response lands the same week its CEO said the company can't explain falling franchise revenue, months into an ongoing controversy. Franchisee frustration reportedly predates both stories. Whether this settles or escalates likely shapes how many B&M storefronts are still open a year from now.
